Darwin Ignacio and his Passion for Design

Darwin Ignacio is an Interior Designer who don’t just select materials to make a space more beautiful. Everything that needs to take place in order to meet a client’s needs and make them satisfied is a matter of importance to him.

As an interior designer, Darwin Ignacio  should be able to provide creative solutions to the space he is  trying to design. He must have the technical expertise to learn a number of choices that he can apply to anyone’s space. I learned from him that it is every interior designer’s goal to work to improve the surroundings and the quality of life of its occupants.

Let us learn more about Darwin Ignacio’s craft as an interior designer with this interview:

What determined your passion for design?
There’s this tag line that I really like since it sums up my mindset about my passion for designing. “Work for a cause, not for applause and another one is live to express, not to impress.”  Living in a world that’s being honed based on the environment, interior design can really make an impact to change people’s behavior and interaction with each other, I use this as motivation that contributes to elements that can make the world a better place. Expressing my vision as a passionate interior designer doesn’t make the job easier, but seeing the results through happy clients is much fulfilling.
Can you remember your first design project?
My first design project was my group’s entry for the annual exhibition of Philippine School of Interior Design batch 2013. The theme of the exhibit was about OPM songs and our assigned song was Bituing Marikit by Nicanor Abelardo. The song was about a girl who sees her dreams as the stars. That dream was pertaining to her love to a man. Our translation was to design a master bedroom located at an edge of a cliff with dark walls that signifies infinity like the universe, a bed with glass bed frame making it look like it’s floating and a ceiling design patterned to a sunburst. Above the seating area are 3 swarovski crystals to put in some shadow play.
What field of design are you most interested in? Do your works have anything to do with it?
Fashion, since part of my job is to also look as creative as possible and look on point always. To let other people know that I’m a designer without having to tell them, and to showcase my style without asking them to view my Instagram and Pinterest:)
What is your favorite book/magazine on design? How about your favorite site?
Form, Dwell and Bluprint is my top 3 Magazines.
Site, Pinterest and Instagram.

What inspires you?

Inspiration is everywhere thus I travel a lot and attend design conventions.
What is the most frustrating aspect of your job as a designer? And the most rewarding one?
In general, it really drives me nuts every time a planned meeting or commitment is changed/ moved due to instances that are beyond my control haha. And I’m bad at freehand drawings. I’m the only person who can understand what I illustrate freehand. The most rewarding is to see a happy client due to giving them an output that’s way more than what they expect.
From your point of view, is design an art or a science?
Both Science and Art. Science = Function and common sense. Art = Aesthetics without having the viewer be confuse and get the purpose in an instant.
Let’s say you entered a contest. You have to come up with a design for the first house on the Mars built for extra-terrestrial living. How would your project look like?
Design wise it would look very futuristic but still with touch of timeless elements that inhibits earth and dwellers. Function wise, I cannot answer this at the moment since I’d have to do more research on their needs and considering the environmental factors in Mars.
If you had no limits (money, resources), what would you create?
Showcase design elements from different eras in one. History of arts and architecture in one place.

Anything that you want to promote?
